Grey Hand Press offers private tuition only in stone or plate lithography. We will tailor your instruction to suit your skill level, learning needs and availability.This allows us to provide all students with one-on-one instruction and maximised time with the materials and equipment, allowing you to get the most out of your time with us. We aim to be flexible, respectful and accommodating for all our students, and we understand that we all learn in different ways. We will provide a relaxing, laid-back atmosphere with air conditioning (hello, summer) and all the coffee you need to keep those creative juices flowing.

This format may be a good option if:

• The workshop or group learning environment isn’t the right fit for you;

• You have done lithography before but are seeking tuition in a specific technique or would like to advance your knowledge;

• You have done printmaking before (for example, at school/university, self-taught or have undertaken a workshop) and would like to try your hand at lithography;

• You have done stone lithography before but have not worked with plates, or vice versa;

• You have never tried any printmaking before;

• You are struggling to find workshops that suit your availability.

Do you have a friend who is also keen to try lithography? Learn together and receive a discounted rate — we can accommodate up to three people at a time.

Timelines & Cost

Below is an estimate of how long instruction may take for the following sessions. You may choose to complete the instruction intensively over full days or over several days (ie, 6 evenings). Choose your pace, and we will do our best to accommodate your availability. Payment plans available.

• Full introduction to stone lithography - 25 -30 hours.

  • $1300 for one person, $1800 for two people

  • Complete intensively over 3-4 full days, or over several days/weeks (ie, 10 x 3 hour sessions, 6 x 5 hour sessions etc)

• Full introduction to aluminium plate lithography - 20 - 25 hours.

  • $1000 for one person, $1450 for two people.

  • Complete intensively over 3 full days, or over several days/weeks (ie, 5 x 5 hour sessions, 8 x 2.5 hour sessions etc).

• Ask us about masterclasses or ‘litho refresher’ sessions. The time requirement will depend on which techniques you wish to learn.

The cost includes our time, basic materials and access to equipment. You will need to bring your own printing paper or purchase from us on the day.
